Aural Listening

Aural awareness – being able to perceive sounds properly – is integral in all areas of musicianship, and singing is one key method of developing the ‘musical ear’. Training one’s aural awareness helps to develop one’s pitch accuracy and sense of sound. Aural tests, which are included in all the practical grading test, test the student’s ability to translate listening into an external creation of sound, whether by singing, humming or whistling.
